Case Study Details:

Patient 2:

Name: Mr. SajidmiyaSaiyed

Age: 36 years (at the time of treatment)

Treatment start date (at KudratiAyurved Health Center): 17th March, 2013

Patient History:

In the year 1999, the patient’s left leg was injured by a weapon and had to undergo an operation. A progressive damage in the leg muscles was thereafter observed in both the legs. After 2 years from the date of the operation, the patient lost the ability to walk and both his hands started showing gradual muscle damage.

When he came for treatment at the center the patient was in wheelchair and had lost the movement in both the hands and legs. He could not sit nor make any neck movements. The body had become stiff due to the deposition of unused protein.

There is no history of genetic disorders in the family.

Reports before treatment:

Serum Creatine Phosphokinase Total Estimation: The test for C.P.K was carried out at the start of the treatment and at certain time intervals during the treatment. On 07/01/2013, the C.P.K level was observed to be 418.08 units per liter (normal value: 26 – 192 U/L) while on 16/03/2013, the level was observed to be 497.91 units per liter.

DNA Analysis: The blood sample of the patient was sent for DNA analysis to CCMB, Hyderabad on 20/03/2013. The date of the report was 09/04/2013. The result did not show any deletion or duplication in any of the exon in the gene responsible for the disorder. However, the report did note that point mutation may be the cause for 10 – 15% of such cases.

Reports after the treatment:

Serum Creatine Phosphokinase Total Estimation: The reported dated 15/05/2013 showed that the C.P.K level had decreased to 414.53 units per liter.

Physical observation before the treatment:

The body muscles had weakened and had become stiff. There was no movement in hands or legs or in the neck. There was no space between the fingers and the distance between the forefinger and the thumb could not be decreased even by force. The nail on the third finger of the left hand had decayed and had blackened. Similarly, there was no space between the arms and the patient’s torso and not even fingers could be inserted between them. The patient was not able to sit without external support. The patient felt weak while chewing food after 5 minutes.

Physical observation after the treatment:

Strengthening of the muscles was observed. The patient regained mobility to some extent in both the hands and legs just after one month’s treatment. The mobility in his hands and legs increased gradually as the treatment continued along with progressive strengthening of the muscles in his body. After one year of the treatment he is now able to sit with pillows propped behind him. He is able to stand for a few seconds. The arms have become loose and now can be moved away from the torso. The fingers of the hands now have movement in them and can be separated from each other. The blackened nail is now normal. Eating has become easy without difficulty.

Result of the treatment:

Where there was no movement in the hands and legs of the patient before treatment to the extent that the patient had to use a wheelchair for moving from one place to another, the patient is able to make use of his hands and is able to stand for a few seconds after being treated at KudratiAyurved. This was a direct result of the patient’s muscles gaining strength which was previously lacking. The muscles that had become stiff so that there was no movement have become loose and the patient has regained movement in his neck also.

Conclusion:

The treatment was successful in improving the strength of the patient’s muscles. The muscles of the patient’s body lost their previous stiffness and helped the patient to regain the mobility in the neck, hands and legs muscles after a year.

Results expected with further treatment:

The treatment of the patient at KudratiAyurvedis ongoing. We expect the patient to regain full mobility of all his muscles and be able to resume his life like a normal person at the end of the treatment.Patient 2:
